I give readings to perform. Readings have become essential to my practice of poetry, because I want my words to exist in various forms: as shapes on the page, as concepts, as sounds, as sounds propelled into the air by a body, sloop-shouldered, bald, and wandering over a stage. I need a poetry of the eye, of the mind, and of the ear, and a reading, in the way I do a reading, allows me that.
