Today, I flew to Baltimore, yet I am home at the end of the day. This trip took me to the Albany International Airport. Back in December, I was also in this airport, and there I discovered Paul Katz’ “Three Sonnet Painting” for the first time. This morning, I walked down the hallway to see the painting and take these pictures of it, thereby providing almost eight months after the fact the illustrations for that earlier entry.

We can never tell what the day will bring to us. Today, I received in the mail a set of photographs from John M. Bennett that document my reading/performance at the Nave Gallery in Somerville, Massachusetts, on 16 July 2005. The accompanying note to me said simply, “Proof.” These are the best pictures I have of the reading, and I’m surprised that I didn’t even notice when John took these pictures.

Though I enjoy these questions of yours, they don’t always have clear answers.

What you tell your family about your visual poetry depends on the family you have. I imagine—though I cannot prove it with any empirical evidence—that there are some families that actually appreciate that one of their number is a visual poet (though I’ve no idea why they would).

David-Baptiste Chirot creates his visual poetry in the city of Milwaukee.

He scouts for places in the city for raised or indented words or images. He carries with himself sheets of paper (sheaves of paper) and a lumber crayon. When he places a sheet upon the chosen surface and rubs, he captures the image or text through the process of frottage. The streets of Milwaukee are his studio, and his methods are those of the street.

Does a three-dimensional word mean the same thing when viewed downhill and from the south versus uphill and from the north?

jwcurry was nervous.

That was the reason. If not the reason for the trip, at least the reason for the method of transportation.
