Imagining an Alphabet

My thanks to Chris Piuma for posting my series of microscopic visual poems, thelfbet, over at flim for the last few months—even in the face of some technical problems that delayed the middle of August for about two months. These neobetisms remain a bit rough in executive, but the idea behind them seems to still be clear to me.

The Av & the aesh + The Bee & the be
The Divicee & the marricee + The Edb & the deb
The Eellipsees & the eess + The Feef & the efft
The Gej & the ghee + The Halves & the half-knot
The Ditted & the un-ij + The Quoje & the fijjook
The Kni & the kappak + The Algle & the dottle
The Emt. & the emn + The Nee & the ne
The O’d-o & the oxe + The PeeD & the pec
The Quarrow & the qwu + The Ares & the arngle
The Commass & the sed + The Exclamatsions & the tef
The Separatu & the quuma + The Slashvee & the vieuw
The Triple-U & the triple-v + The Varat & the xomma
The Vy & the yu + The Ezz & the zevv
The Areplusand & the isplusand

I created the even less refined original versions of the poems in a single day during a conference in Cleveland, Ohio. Maybe the creation of these presaged my eventual descent into a world of fidgetglyphing, one in which I would doodle through meetings until I created some tiny visual poem I enjoyed enough to save.
